Youth Arts Month is an annual observance each March encouraging support for art programs in our schools. One idea is to exhibit students' artworks in the community (galleries, libraries, public buildings, etc.) The focus of Youth Arts Month is to recognize ALL students' work - it should NOT be a contest. These art experiences and opportunities should build self-esteem, and it is hoped that the opportunity to exhibit publicly will be a positive experience for everyone. If you need more ideas of how to celebrate Youth Arts Month, contact the representative on the UAEA board - Robyn Card (801) 489-2810 or robyn.card@nebo.edu

The Utah Art Education Association is encouraging observance of Youth Art Month in March 2008 . We are awarding a $200 cash prize to be presented to the Utah public school teacher who has created the most successful and innovative visual arts project celebrating Youth Art Month for the State of Utah.

What is Youth Art Month? It is an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school programs.

Is this a local celebration?

Yes and no. It is a local celebration in that communities are encouraged to participate: to direct attention and increase community awareness of the value of art education for all children. But it is also a national celebration- many states all over the US participate, and it is supported by NAEA.

Sounds good- how do I participate?

Anyone can participate- an art educator, parent, regular classroom teacher, a business leader, a museum volunteer etc. If you have a desire to further the arts for Utah children, then participate! Lets get Utah recognized for quality art programs too!

Where do I get information and materials?

Contact Robyn Card, the Youth Art Month state of Utah Chairperson, for more information: 801-489-2810.
